Special THANKS to everyone who participated in this June's 2025 Tire Recycling Event!!!

WELCOME HEIDI KASPER-DISTRICT TECHNICIAN

Picture
Hello! My name is Heidi, and I’m honored to join the Clay County Soil and Water Conservation District as your new District Technician. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, where I gained hands-on research experience in local conservation efforts—studying the bottlenecking of white-tailed deer populations and exploring habitat concerns related to Indiana’s native little brown bat. These early projects sparked my passion for understanding how science, wildlife, and land use all intersect.

That passion eventually led me to South Korea, where I earned my Master’s degree in Global Affairs & Policy with a focus on international security, environmental, and policy issues. During my time there, I conducted research on deforestation and environmental policy in Brazil, as well as the role of nuclear power in sustainable energy discussions. These experiences gave me a global perspective on environmental challenges and reinforced the importance of community-based conservation back home.

Now, I’m excited to bring that background to Clay County—supporting sustainable land management, building partnerships, and helping protect the natural resources that make this area so special.

When I’m not working, you’ll probably find me outdoors—horseback riding, hiking, or capturing nature through photography. I also enjoy diving into new research topics and continuing to learn about the environment around us.

I’m truly excited to work with and learn from the Clay County community as we care for our land together.
