CCSWCD Farm Tour 2017

Clay County Soil and Water is excited to announce that registration is open for the 2017 Farm Tour. What is the 2017 Farm Tour? It is a two day/1 night educational trip in which local citizens visit various conservation, agriculture and natural resource stops. This year’s trip has a local focus. Stops on this year’s trips include: Day 1 We will be departing from the Clay County 4-H Fairgrounds and head to Honeysuckle Hill Beestro where we will be having a wonderful breakfast and an educational segment on bees. Next we will take a step back in time and take a look at antique tractors and farming tools and get a chance to hear stories of times long ago. Next its off to the Indianapolis Zoo to see the dolphin show and learn how what we do upstream effects all those down stream, there will be a focus on Hypoxia in the Gulf of Mexico and see these amazing creatures in action. Next we will visit DOW Agro-Sciences, LLC, where we will learn of innovative solutions that improve the way the world farms, from innovative hybrids and seed varietites to healthy oils. We will conclude the day with some R&R at Fourwinds Lakeside Inn & Marina. (dinner will be on your own-options include the Wind Jammer Grill, Tradewinds Waterfront Restaurant or order pizza and take it to your room). This hotel has great views and hotel highlights include a fitness center, indoor/outdoor salt water pool, outdoor recreation area and more. Day 2- After enjoying a delicious breakfast at Fourwinds Lakeside Inn & Marina, we will head to the Southwest Purdue Ag Center. Here we will learn of high tunnels, various research projects and the John Deere/Heavy Diesel Technology teaching facility. We will have a box lunch from PEA-Fections. Next Stop-Melon Acres where our focus will be on watermelons and cantaloupe. We will then visit Sullivan County Landowner and his conservation practices. Then its back to Clay County but our tour is far from over. Once back in Clay County we will (pending final confirmation) visit Pasttime Farm-a solar farm developed by Cypress Creek Renewables of Santa Monica, CA. We will then all be dining together at Pappy’s Bar-B-Que and last but not least there will be one last amazing educational stop at Greener Scenes. The cost of this trip is $395.00 per couple/$252.00 for a Single/$198.00 for a Split or $166.00 for a quad.
