The Rain barrels and Composters are from Upcycle Products. This is the same company we used last year.  We are attracted to this company because they take various sized plastic food grade barrels and “UPCYCLE” them.  Which in short means: they take a product that would usually be waste in our landfills and turn it into something that is useful such as a rain barrel and/or composter.

Nowadays, owning a rain barrel seems to be a way to conserve and save money, not to mention

how great they look decorated. They also make a great gift for birthdays, Mother/Father’s Day and have

that personalized touch when decorated by the kids and/or grandkids. For more information on this please Google or search decorating a rainbarrel or something similar. The possibilities are endless.

So what are the benefits of owning a rain barrel?

Free water‐You save money. You will have a supply of FREE natural rain water to use around

your home and garden. Average size of the rain barrel is 55 gallons.

Reduces storm water runoff‐collecting rainwater reduces run‐off, which reduces nutrient and

sediment load. Sedimentation is the number one pollutant in our rivers, lakes and streams.

Reserve source of water during drought‐Helps save plants and newly planted trees in times of

Better for Plants and Gardens‐rainwater stored in rain barrels is naturally soft water and

devoid of minerals, chlorine, fluoride and other chemicals, thus plants respond very well to

rainwater. After all, it’s what plants in the wild thrive on!

YOU are impacting the environment‐Actions have impacts. Its responsible conservation and a

“GREEN” alternative. You are not only preventing plastic barrels from entering the waste

stream at our landfills you are also conserving our water supply.

COMPOST BARRELS-If you are not familiar with composting you might ask why do people compost. Here again saving money is definitely a reason.  However, plants need more than just the nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium found in most of the “balanced” fertilizers.  For plants to stay healthy and grow strong they also need dozens of micronutrients.  The plants benefit from organically active soil.  The organically active soil helps prevent bacterial and fungal diseases and attracts earthworms, which further enrich the soil.  Compost adds all of these features. The compost at the store is usually composted cow manure.  This still works, however its basically giving your plants the same nutrients that the cows eat.  The compost though made from your yard waste and kitchen scraps has a greater nutritional load and its free.  Remember Healthy Soil is Happy Soil.
